ABOUT HKS
Hordaland Kunstsenter (HKS) is an artist run institution that presents, mediates and debates contemporary art by means of exhibitions and specialised art activities. The centre is owned and run by the organisations that support professional visual artists and craftspeople in the region [see BKFH/NKVN].
HKS is also a documentation and resource centre that offers information services and provides professional support to artists, private and public bodies, and the general public.
HKS’s gallery programme includes 68 productions [see programme]. By means of temporary solo, thematic and group exhibitions we wish to show new trends in the fields of visual arts and crafts. If you wish to apply to exhibit at HKS, please use the application form [see application form].
Our activities also cover art in architecture and other private or public spaces.
ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE
The Nordic Guest Studio was established in 1987 and is located at Kulturhuset USF at Georgenes Verft in Bergen. Until recently the studio was at the disposal of the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art (Nifca) www.nifca.org. Hordaland County Council is the host organisation, while Hordaland Kunstsenter is administrator. Professional artists from throughout Scandinavian and the Baltic countries have been able to apply for residencies of between 2 and 6 months.
Due to the recent discontinuation of Nifca, there is at present uncertainty about the running of the guest studio. Efforts are currently being made to find good alternative solutions and further information will be made available as soon as a clarification is possible.
